With even sharper graphics and higher-fidelity environments, the newest version of Lockheed Martin’s flagship simulation and training software program – Prepar3D® Version 6 – has arrived.

For more than a decade, Prepar3D (pronounced “Prepared”) users have been creating immersive training scenarios across aviation, maritime and ground domains.

Here are six ways Prepar3D’s got your back:

1. Prepar3D is visualizing the future for military, academic and flight simulation communities.

Prepar3D has been used for a wide range of learning scenarios including vehicle procedures training, cockpit familiarization, flight planning, air traffic controller training and emergency response preparation in the commercial, academic, professional and military instruction environments.

At Lockheed Martin, Prepar3D supports everything from visualizing missile trajectories to simulating wildfire response efforts.

2. Prepar3D has evolutionary and next-generation features in Version 6.

• Lighting and shadows in Prepar3D are more realistic than any previous version around the globe
• An entirely new atmospheric model that brings unprecedented levels of realism and fidelity
• A streamlined update process, expected to result in significant time and bandwidth savings
• An increased focus on airports, including higher detail lighting models, surfaces, and objects, in response to user feedback

3. Prepar3D’s power is in its open architecture.

Prepar3D’s open architecture allows access to third party developer content or custom generated content to support any platform. Lockheed Martin routinely uses Prepar3D as the basis for training devices across our full portfolio of platforms.

Prepar3D software includes many iconic Lockheed Martin aircraft, past and present. This includes our flagship F-35®, F-16®, F-22® and C-130® fixed-wing aircraft, the CH-53®, MH-60® and S-70TM rotary-wing aircraft, and many more.

4. Military customers currently use Prepar3D training to save lives.

Prepar3D-based devices are fielded around the world to deliver realistic, high-fidelity training. Notable examples include its role as the simulation environment on the F-35 and F-16 Pilot Training Aid (more than 1,000 devices fielded), and the C-130 Multi-Function Training Aid.

It also plays a significant role within customer innovation efforts to re-think pilot training for the future. The U.S. Air Force’s Pilot Training Next efforts have adopted Prepar3D as their solution of choice for game-based simulation.

5. Version 6 users will have significant time and bandwidth savings.

Time and download bandwidth will be saved with the new Prepar3D update process. Time savings will vary based on the changes in the Prepar3D update and user environment. This version will no longer require any components to be uninstalled before updating.

You’ll have smoother, more frequent access to updates with new capabilities that can download and install patches all from within the application.

6. Prepar3D is more futuristic and versatile than ever.

Prepar3D is being utilized by customers in new and novel ways. Our customers are striving for the most immersive and realistic training environments available and that often leads to mixed reality (MR) training integrations.

Lockheed Martin recently announced a new collaboration between the T-50 aircraft program and Red 6’s Advanced Tactical Augmented Reality System (ATARS). Initial technology integrations are being electronically networked with the Prepar3D software simulation suite.
